Country Home Update – Prosciutto Taste Testing

March 24, 2011

Simple Things

proscuitto_taste_testing

Recently I decided to do a fun little thing for my over-worked husband who has a taste for everything fancy.

So, I went to the specailty Italian shop, and bought 50 grams of each of their prosciutto’s.

When he woke up after sleeping like a bear he was pleasantly surprised by a “Prosciutto Tate Testing” I’d set up for him for breakfast.

He tasted each piece, and then had to rate them based on his preference.

It was quite fun – and a cool way to make brunch at home that much more exciting!

Here’s a recap of the results:

Pick #1: La Torre Prosciutto di Parma ( $34.90/kg)
Pick #2: Ruiliano Prosciutto di Parma ($49.90/kg)
Pick #3: San Danielle Silver Prosciutto ($26.90/kg)
Pick #4: Niagara Prosciutto ($44.90/kg)

Unfortunately the Niagara one come in last – which is a shame because I love to support local farmers/businesses.

Other than that – It just goes to show that the most expensive is not always the best!

So Ready For Spring Shopping at Pink Tartan

Pink Tartan pink jumpsuit

Ugh, winter. That’s all there is left to say about how grey and long this winter has been.

But….the great news is that it’s almost over!!! And the even better news is that Pink Tartan has the most unbelievable Spring lineup, and we’re dying to pick it up at their new flagship location.

Nothing makes me happier than the thought of warm Spring days, light jackets, and open toed shoes.

Not to mention that I am over the moon that colour is IN this Spring. I love colour! Pinks, oranges, purples, blues….oh, bliss.

On my list of Pink Tartan favourites this Spring:
- super fun pink jumpsuit (above)
- romantic and strong yellow dress (below)
- bright short shorts (second below)

Pink Tartan yellow dress
Pink Tartan shorts

Aren’t they gorgeous? Now we just need to throw some fabulous parties so we can look as perfectly glam as these clothes deserve! (And some fabulous shoes and new jewels wouldn’t hurt either!)

Who Would You Call?

March 8, 2011

Wellbeing

Recently one of the most fantastic (smart, beautiful, giving) woman I know asked me to help promote an event that is near and dear to her. Being a site that helps woman get what they want out of life we jumped at the chance to help raise awareness for something that could make a big differene in other women’s lives.

The Assaulted Women’s Helpline is a great charity that is always looking to raise awareness, and this year to mark the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day on March 8th, they are launching a cool online love-in celebration-of-friends extravaganza.

It’s called “Who Would You Call?” and the idea is to celebrate and pay tribute to the awesome, awesome friend or friends in our life that we can call no matter what at 4am (in contrast for 49,000+ woman in Ontario each year who aren’t so lucky, it’s the Helpline that is there to listen 24/7). The Assaulted Women’s Helpline is inviting people to write a story or letter or blog post or video or haiku or whatever to honour an amazing friend.

The campaign runs from March 8th – April 15th, and your support in any way that you can give it are very much appreciated.

Here are the details …
site url = http://www.whowouldyoucall.ca
youtube video about it = http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FBXDKsTI-3c
Twitter hashtag = #whowouldyoucall
Assaulted Women’s Helpline Twitter: @AWHL

AWHL is a charity so they are also inviting people who make tributes to consider a donation of any amount in honour of their friend and then they mail a sweet card to your friend. They’ll be thrilled to receive donations (and it’s a charity that reallllly needs the help and uses its funds so so wisely) but it isn’t required to participate. The main goal is to get people talking and thinking – by celebrating your uber-fantastic friends and recognizing that we’re pretty lucky to have friends like that to celebrate – not everyone is in the same boat and thank goodness AWHL exists.
