Like every year, New Years Resolutions are being tossed around like candy this year. Diet? Spend more time with the family? Get a new job? Take up a hobby?
This year I’ve come up with a resolution that’s a small one, but a big one.
I’m a pretty independent girl. I’ve paid for university by myself, moved to Asia, France and within Canada all by myself, and moved up the career ladder…all by myself.
But life is changing very soon from a “me” to a “we”. However, when I talk I still mostly refer to “me”.
So, my New Years Resolution is to use more “we”. It may sound like an outdated anti-feminist resolution, but it’s not. It’s this modern feminists way of realizing that yes, I do share my life with someone, and not it’s not all about “me”. So if I say “we” I haven’t lost the “me” I’ve just switched out a letter that recognizes I’m no longer thinking only for myself.
Happy New Years!

Recently I was out with my fiancé at a steakhouse.
We decided to fancy it up a bit and have a glass of champagne.
We wanted 2 glasses but not a bottle, so we got two little Pommery bottles.
After pouring, cheering and sipping my fiancé started playing with the metal cork covers that go over the top of the champagne bottle.
A few minutes later I found these cute little creatures on the table.
The champagne creatures were chatting, sipping some champagne…and then they started to get quite active!

Christmas is over, it went well, and our trip to Washington DC has wharfed into a whole new adventure! We’re going to the Florida Keys!
In the beginning of planning our trip we decided we wanted to see many of the cities and sights along the way to Florida. Since flying to all these different places would be way too expensive we decided a road trip would be a fun and less expensive way to see all these great places along the way.
We came up with a general plan, and then asked our frequent traveller friends for their recommendations.
Charleston was a city that everyone kept on recommending.
And I can see why.
It’s a lovely city. So beautiful and charming and historical. There are so many small streets, with well maintained buildings, and whole lot of that Southern Charm.
We planned on only spending a few hours in Charleston. But we got pulled in. We walked randomly around the city, admired the architecture and unique character of the city, strolled some more, stopped for a glass of wine, and continued on. Several hours later we found ourselves surprised at how much time had passed!
So instead of charging on we stayed at a local hotel and kept on enjoying!
If I could do this leg of the trip differently I would have spent more time in Charleston, and taken a guided tour to learn about all the history.
But, since we need to be in Key West in a few days it’s time to motor on!
Up Next: Savannah

Like most people my family is spread all over. Some are in England, some are in Montreal,Toronto, Vancouver and all the places in between.
Inevitably spending time with family for Christmas involves a lot of travel.
This year we’re heading to Washington, DC to spend some time with my fiance’s family (Hi Matias!).
So this morning we hit the road, and we’ll drive, drive, drive for 10 hours or so for our family visit.
How far do you travel for Christmas?

In Toronto the winter can be pretty harsh. It’s all to easy to stay home, open the Shiraz, and eat rich cheese tucked in some cozy blankets. Even the thought of going outside is scary.
When thinking of going outside for prolonged periods of time the average person does some quick math…factoring in the amount of time outside, how cold it is outside, and how much fun they’re likely to have. Often times the math doesn’t work out, and everyone stays inside.
But who can live like a shut-in for half the year?!
Luckily our friends at Toronto Harbourfront are hosting DJ Skate Saturday Nights at the Natrel Rink at Harbourfront to get us of our sofas. They have an outdoor skating rink open everyday, and on some nights they have dj’s spinning.
So grab a few girlfriends, bundle up, and head out to the rink for some good, clean fun.
Here’s the schedule for 2010 (always from 8-11pm):
January 2, DJ -2 (ambient electronica)
January 9, DJs Matt Cully and Lou Calabro (blues, swing, 50’s rock, doo wop)
January 16, DJs Andy Reid, Simon Jain and YUG (house)
January 23, DJ Promise (mix of funky beats)
January 30, DJ L’Oqenz and The 2 Swift Household (hip hop, old school jazz)
February 6, The Real Soul on Ice (soul, funk, house, reggae)
February 13, Cherry Bomb (house and electro)

As the holiday season approaches there’s no better time to get together with friends and family and celebrate together.
Here are some simple holiday tips to help you host a great holiday party.
Pick a theme. Holiday parties don’t just have to be about Christmas. Pick a fun theme to boost your party this year. Think Bad Santa and come up with games and activities where your guests can play, laugh and get to know each other better. Your party will be the hit of the season.
Invite a wide mix of people. A fun mix of people from different backgrounds with different interests can add some serious spice to your party. Instead of inviting the same six people why not make it ten, and add some new people to really stir things up?
Stock up on liquor and spirits. Deviate from the everyday and come up with unique cocktail combinations to serve your guests, or have a wine or beer tasting party where your guests have to guess which is which. The more creative you get, the better your results.
Provide some light and tasty snacks. When your guests are sipping and chatting make sure you’ve provided a fuel up station for them. Some nice, light, tasty snacks will go a long way. Try not to go with the super heavy and complicated snacks that will be hard for you to make, and leave your guests feeling bloated and sleepy.
Decorate. Some festive ornaments and funky decorations will go far. Show that you put some effort into your party and add holiday accents – such as silver cocktail glasses and table decorations.
Just add music. Before your guests arrive put the final touches on your soiree and put on some music. Have a few choices nearby that can help to elevate, or slow things down if needed. Since you’re setting a whole scene for your party make sure the music compliments the vibe you are trying to set with all the decorating, games and cocktail mixes.
Go with the flow. Instead of forcing games and seating plans on your guests let them set the pace for the night. If your guests aren’t interested in your games drop it and move onto something else – and if they seem like they are ready for something different bring out the wine tasting. As long as things flow nicely it’ll be a great party.

The Sunsa Chandelier
Recently I stumbled upon this super cool chandelier – The Sunsa Chandelier. It’s made up of 21 shades, and looks kind of like Japanese umbrellas upside down, but in a very refined way. The four layers of shades are either 24” or 30” in diameter, creating a large scale sea of light.
This statement piece would look amazing in an entryway!
